The Red8 name is also part of Chinese culture. Red being associated with wealth and prosperity, while 8 being a lucky number of sorts with special meaning associated with it. Red8 did something that I've never seen before. That being the use of the large red ABS plastic crown. ABS plastic is very hard and solid feeling. It also looks like tasty red candy. The number "8" is done in relief on the side. Sure I worry a bit about the crown scratching, but that is just part of the character of the watch. Realize that the entire crown is not actually plastic. There is a standard metal crown that has a red plastic cap over it. It is a fun style and certainly goes with the theme. No complaints here.

I want to know what is going on in 2012 that is so important to Fortis. Is it the estimated year for us to start a mission to Mars? Maybe that is it. I know Fortis has a few watches it would like to go there. A few of the new cool Fortis limited edition watches to be announced are limited to 2012 pieces. For example the (freakin' awesome) Fortis Cargo Spaceleader watch. Well another "2012" watch to be released is this phantom version of the B-42. I grabbed a glimpse of it on the WatchTime website. Surly, but experienced Mr. Disher over there wrote about it. He doesn't like me very much, but I'll thank him anyway.

Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Co-Axial Master Chronometer

Below the bubbles is a code. You go online or use a mobile website on your mobile phone and enter the code at Prooftag's website. After you enter the code the site shows you an image of the bubble formation that is associated with the code. You can then authenticate it in two ways. See if the image on the screen matches that on the card you are holding using your own eyes. If it is hard to tell and the images look close, you can used the special instrument that Prooftag offers that will line up the position and size of the bubbles compared to that which is in their system. Overall it is a really great system, and Prooftag has a good website that covers all the little details.

Unlike Orbita winders, less expensive Chinese watch winders are prone to failure after a few months, but I haven't heard about this from Orbita. Honestly, I have had several Chinese watch winders die on me... you are the exception to the rule if one last for 6 month to a year or longer. Like all electronic or mechanical things, once in a while watch winders need servicing, but I am confident in the lifespan on the motors in Orbita watch winders. This makes them worth the price, as they simply last a long time.

This is especially evident in the frog and the owl. Is there not something a bit Disney-esque about them? Then there is what you cannot see in the images, the "crazy seconds" eye of the latter two models or the flying...fly of the Chameleon model. If you aren't familiar with the watches, here is what that is. Inside the watches is an exclusive Girard Perregaux GP 4000 automatic movement that has a small disc for the subsidiary seconds as opposed to a hand. This disc is used as the left eye on the frog or the owl (and the fly) which means that the pupil will be seen to spin around - like a googly eye. I get a reminder of the animatronic characters on Disney Land rides that had such simple movements I recall enjoying being able to spot as a child while in a boat surrounded by water and theme music.

Customers Race to Save on Brands from Invicta and Swiss Legend at the World of Watches Daytona 500 Sale

Project X offers three main useful services for watch lovers. First, they offer a full customization service where you choose what Rolex watch you want, and everything you want done to it. As the term "bespoke" isn't used too often in the US, it simply means "personalized." They source the new Rolex watch and you can either choose from various options on their website, or enjoy a very personal consultation with them to communicate precisely what your dream is. Project X invests a large amount of time privately with clients working with them on designing their ultimate Rolex watch creation. Often times the costs for such modifications can be high given the complexity. For customers who opt for this, it is not a matter of cost, but joy that a company like Project X even exists to offer such services with quality results. Project X takes great pride in their Bespoke Edition watches.

A new month and a new watch giveaway - this time you have a chance at winning a free watch from probably the largest Swiss watch maker, Swatch. The ubiquitous watch brand is the poster child of the Swatch Group, that timepiece that made Swiss watches cool again back in the 1980's. Swatch has come a long way and now has a great new line of automatic chronograph movement based watches, known appropriately as the Swatch Auto Chrono line. There are 5 new models, and each contains a brand new ETA automatic chronograph movement that is based on the classic Lemania 5100. See my review of another Swatch Automatic Chrono model in the same collection here.

So what about the functions? Well, the watch does a lot, but Gerald Genta has thus far been remarkably coy about listing out the functions clearly. Let's me suggest what I think it does. First there are the minute repeater functions. You can active the watch to automatically tell you the time at certain intervals, or do so on command. This is interesting, because it can act like a grandfather clock does. Meaning that without your intervention, the watch will just tell you the time. Further, it has various striking functions. Meaning that the watch will strike each hour, or each quarter hour. And for each quarter hour, the sonnerie has a different tone. So the watch isn't just about making noises, but making noises that actually mean something. It also has a silence mode so you aren't annoying during meetings. Then again, if you are wearing this watch in a meeting, you most likely are heading the meeting. So let's get rid of that last point. The silence mode is there to prevent the watch waking you up at night. That makes more sense. Probably because you are going be sleeping with the Arena Metasonic under your pillow. Lastly, there is petite and grande sonnerie. This is like setting the volume. The petite sonnerie is a shorter sound, while the grande sonnerie is longer and tells you the time down to the minute.

If it is for yourself or as a gift this is a good watch for the money. It has the style of much more expensive watches for around 0. This price is competitive with other nice Japanese watches such as Citizen and Seiko, but I think in a lot of ways this Orient watch has a lot more "worldly" character than some of the other women's Japanese watches in this price segment. The best part about the watch is that is can really be dressed up or dressed down - a good fit for almost any occasion and I don't think that women will need to try to hard to fit it into their style and personalities.orientwatchusa.com.

The watch would have to be large. Likely on par with the dimensions of a Cabestan watch - similar in shape as well. The movement would be manually wound and of course would need to be custom made. Problem of course is power. The segment of the case with the Virtual Ideas logo could theoretically house the movement, but it would need to have some clever machinery to house a manually wound movement that could have enough power to operated the large telescopic arms. With some effort, the watch could be pulled off though. I can't image a price however for a watch like this that would be under 0,000 if it was mechanical movement based. More details on novel Virtual Ideas concept watches as they become available. If you are, or are part of a watch maker and want to Virtual Ideas to work with you, simply go to their site (link above) and contact them.
